A HISTORY OF WINE - Part 4 Modernity & Revolution
A HISTORY OF WINE - Part 4 Modernity & Revolution
January 19, 2025 3pm-5pm (Sunday)
Join us as we explore the revolution that has been happening in the wine world since the great Taste de Vin 1972, the founding of UC Davis & the creation of the fields of oenology & viticulture, and the modernization of the wine world and what that has all meant to the world of wine and where it is going now.
There is a revolution in wine making happening all over the world, but like many revolutions, it was born in France. There is a return to the more Pagan-istiic styles of wine making as the world responds to how climate change is effecting wine growing.
We visit the concepts of “new-world” vs “old-world” wine making, and taste the difference. We explore how palettes and styles change over time, and how wine is affected by fashion, politics and trend, even though it is one of our oldest companions. We discuss the modern-day wine world, importing and pricing, market pressures and generational shifts.
Co-taught with Alex Seide, Assistant Wine Director & Desta Marée Proprietor & Wine Director. Special appearances and invitations as well.
This is wine education, with wine tasting as a part of the exploration, but not the purpose of the seminars. These wines are not readily available on the market, most you will not be able to purchase for yourself, with some even directly imported for these educational purposes.
